DO WE HAVE TO BE EXPERIENCED RIDERS?
No. We have horses to suit all riders from first time novice to experienced rider and all age groups. See Tips & Tricks for riders.
WHAT DO I WEAR?
You will need long trousers (jeans or track pants are fine), sturdy footwear, boots or trainers NOT sandals or scuffs and clothing according to the weather. We supply safety helmets. Sunscreen is recommended.
CAN I TAKE MY CAMERA OR VIDEO?
Yes. We recommend you do but at your own risk.
WHEN DO YOU OPERATE?
We operate EVERY day except Christmas Day.
DO YOU RIDE ON THE BEACH?
Yes. ALL our rides go along the beach and include some dunes. Our longer rides include farmland, native New Zealand rainforest and Pine forest.
ARE MY VALUABLES SAFE
We recommend you leave them at the office where they will be locked away and under staff supervision.
HOW MANY TRIPS A DAY DO YOU DO?
In summer we do up to 4 treks daily and by special request we also do twilight and moonlight rides. During the winter months we do 2 treks daily and during weekends we do 3 treks daily. Rides depart every day at 10am and 2pm. We are closed on Christmas Day and we have a special programme on New Years Day.
HOW MANY HORSES DO YOU HAVE?
We have more than 100 horses, so no horse is overworked or does more than 3 hours per day unless it is on a long trek.
HOW BIG A GROUP CAN YOU CATER FOR?
We can take up to 25 riders at one time however we prefer to limit our groups to a maximum of 17. Larger groups can be catered for by splitting the group into riding parties of 15 at one time. For overnight Safaris we think that a party of 8 is the optimum size. For the Coast to Coast ride numbers must be at least 4 people.
WHO RUNS THE RIDES?
Your hosts Sharley and Laly Haddon, descendants of the great Ngati Wai Chief Te Kiri, have farmed in this area for the greater part of their lives and between them have years of experience in all equestrian disciplines.
